Overview

Fleetwood Australia successfully delivered the modular infrastructure for the NSW International Speedway, receiving top honours at both the 2024 PrefabAUS Awards for Excellence in Prefabricated Building – Infrastructure and the 2024 MBI Awards for Permanent Modular – Special Application. This project comprised 56 modules and showcased innovation in off-site construction. It was completed during one of Sydney’s wettest years and amid significant disruptions from COVID-19.

Constructed for Sydney Metro and delivered by Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure, these modular facilities were crucial for opening the world-class motorsport venue on schedule. Fleetwood’s off-site construction method ensured efficiency, safety, and quality, demonstrating that modular construction is the future of infrastructure delivery.

Solution

Fleetwood collaborated with Cox Architecture, ARUP, and Abergeldie to design, produce, and install a complex modular solution that included:

• 56 steel-framed modules spread over two stories
• Corporate boxes featuring floor-to-ceiling glass for optimal viewing
• Media rooms, amenities, food outlets, ticket booths, and plant rooms
• DDA-compliant access with lifts and stairways
• 100mm fire-rated cladding, insulation, and climate-controlled interiors

The modules left the factory 70% complete and were installed in just 40 days. Despite facing extreme weather conditions, site constraints, and supply delays, Fleetwood successfully completed the project on schedule, ensuring the venue was ready for its first event.
