Fleetwood featured on ABC’s 730: The growing role of modular housing in addressing Australia’s housing challenge

This week, Fleetwood was featured on the ABC’s 730 program in a positive segment on modular construction and its ability to help scale housing supply in Australia.

The segment includes footage from inside Fleetwood’s Brisbane manufacturing facility and an interview with our CEO, Bruce Nicholson.

The segment highlighted both the opportunities and barriers that currently limit modular’s contribution to Australia’s housing challenge.

You can watch the full segment here.

“Modular has a critical role to play in helping solve Australia’s housing challenge — and Fleetwood is committed to helping lead the way.”
— Bruce Nicholson, Chief Executive Officer, Fleetwood Australia

In the interview, Bruce calls on governments to support the industry so that it can scale and make a greater contribution to the national housing supply.

Fleetwood identified several key barriers currently holding modular back, including:

  • Financing and access to capital
  • Council planning and approval processes
  • Perception and understanding of modern modular
  • The National Construction Code (NCC)
  • Regulatory consistency across jurisdictions
  • Government procurement and contracting frameworks

Addressing barriers is essential to unlocking the full potential of modular. Fleetwood will continue to engage with key stakeholders to ensure the right policies and industry settings are in place to accelerate modular delivery.

With the right support, the modular industry can enable faster, more reliable, and more sustainable housing delivery — an outcome that benefits all Australians.
