Brisbane Central State College

Single-storey junior learning facility

Overview

Fleetwood was engaged by the Queensland Department of Education to deliver a design and construct solution for Brisbane Central State College. The school required an additional junior learning building for the start of the 2019 school year, which has provided the school with an ongoing flexible solution as the student population is set to grow over the coming years.

Solution

Fleetwood’s role was to deliver a full turnkey solution, which specifically included the design and construct solution of an individual General Learning Area (GLA) with the full scope of works also including multiple access points (stairs and ramp access) along with a decking built into the structure.

The project was dependent on the collaborative relationship between Fleetwood, the Queensland Department of Education and the school. With the entire building delivered in one day onto screw piles the handover was completed in a week, which allowed the school to move in seamlessly. Due to the precarious position of a heritage listed tree on site the delivery of the modules had to be precise to make sure the school grounds were maintained.

Benefits

With the procurement of the building on short notice, the advantages of delivering a modular solution are eminent as shown with the ability to deliver an entire structure ready for use within a week. A fraction of the time a traditional build takes. The building has helped the school with the space needed to continue to grow as it looks to cater to a growing population within their local community.
